Parenting for Allah: Solutions for the American Family

Day 1: Modern Muslim Family
Friday, December 16, 8-9:30pm (1.5 hours) | Attendance Free

Friday night’s program will serve as an introduction to the weekend’s workshop. Via a general talk, Dr. Sadiq will focus on addressing the challenges Muslim parents and youth face in America.

Day 2: Healthy Marriage —> Happy Families 
Saturday, December 17, 1:30- 5pm (3.5 hours) | Registration Required 

Why are so many of our marriages and families unhealthy? Why do we have such a high divorce rate? Why are our youth facing so many struggles? Why can’t we solve these problems?
The simple, unfortunate answer: we don’t understand marriage. This workshop aims to help husbands and wives understand their relationship as spouses and build a happy marriage so they can then raise healthy families.
Objectives:
  1. Understand the concepts of marriage and family properly.
  2. Learn what it takes to achieve a happy marriage and healthy family.
  3. Share personal experiences with marriage and family life.

Day 3: Muslim Kids of America
Sunday, December 18, 1:30- 5pm (3.5 hours) | Registration Required

Children face challenges growing up in America that are foreign to their parents. We will confront these issues and learn how to guide our children through them.

Objectives:
  1. Highlight current issues faced by our youth.
  2. Master the parents’ roles, responsibilities, and accountabilities in raising children.
  3. Understand a child’s changing needs during his journey from infancy to adulthood.
  4. Grasp how parenting style must adapt to the changing needs of the child.
  5. Learn how marital relationship between fathers and mothers may affect the upbringing of the child.​​​

​About the instructor:
​Dr. Mohammed Sadiq is a Clinical Psychologist based in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. He received his Masters and Doctoral degrees in Behavioral and Clinical Psychology from the United States, and has been practicing in North America for the last 33 years. His experience covers a wide range of areas including: Forensic psychology, Psychiatric hospitals, Community mental health clinics, Residential youth institutes, Community agencies such as group homes for youth, and sexual assault centers, etc.

He has worked with people of all ages suffering from various emotional, mental, behavioral and family problems. He has also been working with various Muslim communities in North America providing individual, marital, family and youth counseling. He also teaches and conducts seminars and workshops for Muslim communities and professionals in training. He is a practicing Muslim by the Grace of Allah.
