COURSE DESCRIPTION This course will explore some of the challenges and issues the 21st Century Muslim is facing. It will provide prophetic counsel and clarity through solutions, answers, and guidelines. Students will learn how to apply Shari`ah texts, and how they are adept at dealing with any issue – personal, communal, economic, or intellectual. The course is based on the monumental text Living as a Muslim authored by the late intellectual giant, erudite scholar Shaykh Ashraf Ali al-Thanwi. This text brings together around 90 verses of the Qur’ān and 340 hadiths - under the headings of 25 principles - which focus on the very essentials of Islam.

WHO ARE THE TEACHERS?
Mufti Niaz Hannan, Palmyra, NJ
Mufti Niaz Hannan is the Imam and Religious Director at ICSJ (Islamic Center of South Jersey) in Palmyra, NJ. Shaykh Hannan studied in the UK at Madinatul-Uloom Al-Islamiya and graduated as a ‘Ālim in the Islamic Sciences from Jamiatul Ilm Wal Huda. He completed a MA in Islamic Studies from the Markfield Institute of Higher Education (MIHE) and attended the Cambridge Muslim College, where he completed a Diploma in Contextual Islamic Studies in Leadership.
Imam Numaan Cheema, Yardly, PA
Imam Numaan Cheema was born and raised in Lawrenceville, NJ. At a young age, he ventured to Buffalo, NY and Chatham, Ontario to gain an in-depth understanding of the sacred Islamic sciences. Upon graduation from a rigorous 7 year course, he was given traditional license (ijazah) to teach the major books of Prophetic Tradition, Islamic Studies, Qur'anic Interpretation, Creed, and several other traditional Islamic sciences. As a new graduate, he took up a position as a Head Imam and Resident Scholar in Boston, MA. Later, he made his way back to Canada to further his studies while also teaching there. Currently, he serves as the Imam of Zubaida Foundation in Yardley, PA.
Ustadh Mobeen Vaid, Philadelphia, PA
Ustadh Mobeen Vaid (M.A. Islamic studies, Hartford Seminary) is a Muslim public intellectual and writer. His writings center on how traditional Islamic norms and frames of thinking intersect the modern world. As of late, he has focused on Islamic sexual and gender norms. Vaid also speaks at confessional conferences, serves as an advisor to Muslim college students, and was campus minister for the Muslim community while a student at George Mason University. He has reviewed The Study Qur’an for the Journal of Islamic Sciences and published “‘And the Male is Not Like the Female’: Sunni Islam and Gender Noncon-formity."
Mufti Bilal Mohammad, Piscataway, NJ
Mufti Bilal Mohammad completed the memorization of the Holy Qur’ān from Darul Huda Institute (Piscataway, New Jersey). Thereafter, he completed his 6 year `Aalimiyyah course from Darul Uloom Al Madania (Buffalo, NY) and Darul Uloom Canada (Chatham-Kent, Canada). He then traveled to South Africa in ordder to complete the extensive Iftaa (Mufti) course from Darul Iftaa Mahmudiyyah (Durban, South Africa), specializing in Islamic Theology and Islamic Finance. During his stay at Darul Iftaa Mahmudiyyah, Mufti Bilal issued more than 300 fatwas, accepted and approved by a number of senior Muftis in the locality. He is currently the Islamic Studies teacher at An-Noor Academy and one of the teachers of the `Aalimiyyah program of Darul Huda Institute (Piscataway, NJ).
Dr. Mateen Khan, Lawrenceville, NJ
Dr. Mateen Khan was born and raised in the Philadelphia area. He completed his medical degree from Temple University Medical School and specialized in Emergency Medicine. As he began practicing as an Emergency Medicine physician, Shaykh Dr. Mateen simultaneously enrolled in the prestigious seminary program at Darul Uloom Al-Madania in Buffalo, where he spent six years intensively studying core disciplines of the traditional Islamic sciences, such as Arabic, Tafsir (Quranic Exegesis), Hadith (Prophetic Traditions), Fiqh (Jurisprudence), and other related subjects. As the new branch of the seminary opened in Chatham, Ontario by the name of Darul Uloom Canada, he relocated to it and completed his graduation there, gaining Ijazas or authorizations to teach the various subjects, most notably, the six most authentic books of Hadith, namely, Sahih Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, Sunan At-Tirmidhi, Sunan an-Nasai, Sunan ibn Majah and Sunan Abu Dawud.
